The recent Perth Magic Millions yearling sales saw the emergence of a new generation of racing and bloodstock agent.

James Christie of Electra Bloodstock was active at the Magic Millions and secured four horses. The recently launched business has provided Christie with the opportunity to be fully involved in the racing industry.

He initially worked at the renowned Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley after completing schooling at Aquinas College and subsequently worked for well known trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith at Flemington in Melbourne to gain experience in the industry. Realising that further education in business was essential, he has recently completed a Commerce Degree at Murdoch University.

Christie said “I have a genuine love of horses and the thoroughbred racing industry which was passed down to me from my father Mark and we planned to work together on his retirement”. Mark Christie was a leading Perth property industry identity who died prematurely from a heart attack in 2014 only months before he was due to retire to focus on breeding race horses.

The family owned thoroughbred business Remembrance Breeding includes part ownership of Ma Chienne who won the Tattersalls Cup and was placed second in the Perth Cup. The horses in the Christie's stable will include progeny of Ma Chienne.

The four horses purchased at Magic Millions include a filly by Snitzel out of Paradise Park, a colt by Magnus out of Lenswood, a colt by Denman out of Busty and a filly by Written Tycoon out of Flying Foray. The horses will be syndicated and trained by leading trainers Jason Miller, Daniel Morton and Daniel Pearce.

Christie said “We purchased Keystone Rose in 2010 for only $3000 with Todd Harvey and she went on to win $120,000 in prizemoney so there are always some pleasant surprises in this industry”.
