GETTING THE ATHLETE TO THE RACES!!!
Sep 18, 2018
I often get asked how a horse gets from the ring to the track!!
Well here is some insight into how the team prepares each horse for a career in the red and the white!!!
Its an exciting time of the year. Its a time when horses who are purchased at the yearling sales begin preparation for life as Racehorses.
The key with Race Horses is giving them a good start in life with appropriate agistment, Breaking and Pre Training. I thought I would send out a bit of information about how Electra Bloodstock go about things with the Durrant stable in getting horses the appropriate start in life.

After the yearling sale, you have to identify whether the horse needs a rest after the preparation or can head in for Breaking in. Each horse is different. For example "Kiss The Breeze" who won the first 2yo race of last year, (INITIAL PLATE) was given two weeks off before being broken by Adam Fairey.
Kiss The Breeze showed talent from the start!! She is pictured here when first ridden by Adam Fairey!!
Below 4 months later winning the Initial Plate!!
Some of these horses , show that they have the ability and race brain straight away, in attitude, movement and constitution. When I bought Kiss The Breeze I didn't think she would win the first 2yo race!!
I bought her to be a three year old. She has gone shinsore twice now which suggests she is still developing but also had the class and race brain to go early!!
On the other Hand classy mare "Everymile A Memory" was not even ridden until she was a 3yo filly. When she arrived from the eastern states she was small and weak, but Eva Highley my agister and huge key to my business did a superb job to put weight and strength in the right places through appropriate nutrition.
When she was ready to be educated Adam Fairey only lunged the filly for two weeks before another 3-4 month spell.
The filly has now won two races and a second from 6 starts and looks a very promising mare for the future!! If Adam had pushed the button would she have made it?? Who knows!!!
Currently I have a couple of horses who have demonstrated myself Adam Durrant and Adam Fairey the physical attributes , brain and ability to have a racing preparation.
The More Than Ready filly and Hinchinbrook Colt have had breaking and a small preparation and are now heading down to Tiarrna Robertson for a two week period to learn the ropes of being trained in the city before going to Adam Durrant beautiful rural stables.

A horse like the Snippetson gelding has showed us good ability and that he will race early!! However being a naughty boy he will have a mini preparation before a break!! He will then head in for a racing preparation!!
SNIP PICTURED BELOW IS A NAUGHTY BOY!!!
Horses such as the Al Maher colt, Magic Albert gelding, Star Witness Colt and the Patronize filly are late two year old types!!
THE AL MAHER COLT (ALBERT IS SHAPING NICELY TO RACE MID NEXT YEAR!!)
With the Blackfriars filly and the Pierro Filly's looking to be middle distance horses!!
I just wanted you guys to have a look at how meticulous my breaker Adam Fairey is!! Education can be the difference between winning and losing on the track.
Notice how patient the two horseman are with this 2 year old filly. They aren’t aggressive with her and are encouraging her whilst educating her. She is unlikely to race as a two year old but we are getting the basics right for her long career!!
"ROSIE" Blackfriars x Angel Rose before she went through the gates @ Lark Hill!!!
Champion trainer Adam Durrant is a genius because he doesn't push horses when they aren't ready!! The horse always will tell him!! He is hands on with his horses and even rides them himself from time to time!!
